CEO & Founder

Geoff Oxnam is a microgrid project developer and former utility executive with more than two decades of experience in energy, utilities, telecommunications and infrastructure. Geoff has managed strategic planning, operations, marketing and communications efforts for utility, telecommunications and environmental organizations.  Geoff earned a BA in History from Williams College (Williamstown, Mass.) and an MBA from The Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School (Baltimore, Md.). Maryland Governor Larry Hogan appointed Geoff to chair the Maryland Clean Energy Center board of directors and to sit on the board of the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute. 

Ricky Buch


Ricky Buch is an energy expert who has worked across the value chain, managing existing and developing new generation, distribution, and behind-the-meter products and services. Most recently, Ricky served as an external consultant to the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, where he provided expertise to increase microgrid development in emerging markets. Prior to this, he worked at GE Power for several years, most recently as the Director for Energy Access and Hybrid Distributed Power. In this role, he helped structure several off-grid electrification deals around the world. Prior to launching GE’s energy access efforts, Ricky was involved with numerous other strategic imperatives at GE, including founding and launching Current by GE, facilitating development of the H-class gas turbine, and partnering with the World Economic Forum on the Future of Electricity. Prior to joining GE, Ricky worked for Microsoft Corp. He has a BS in Computer Science and Engineering from UCLA, and an MBA from the University of Michigan.


Nate Mills

Project Manager

Nate Mills is a program management and leadership expert with more than two decades of experience leading technically complex engineering efforts from design through construction. A former Navy officer, his most recent work involved directing procurement and construction of submarines and their supporting systems.  Following his first 10 years as a submarine officer, he held roles overseeing ship maintenance, repair, and contract management.   Nate holds a Naval Engineer's degree and an SM in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MS in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of New Mexico, and a BS in Geology from Cornell University.

Dr. Travis Simpkins

Design, Engineering & Finance

Dr. Travis Simpkins is a microgrid, distributed generation and energy storage engineer who specializes techno-economic modeling of advanced energy systems. As

Chief Technology Officer of American Microgrid Solution's partner muGrid Analytics, Travis serves  an owner's advisory and project development specialist delivering maximum economic return for clients' energy investment dollar serving micro- and minigrid clients in the commercial & industrial sector and in the developing world. Travis joined the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in 2010 and proceeded to reinvent their approach to modeling renewable energy systems and his innovative research in this field led to him creating the REopt tool. Dr. Simpkins holds a SM and PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a certificate of Financial Engineering from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and a BS in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics from Case Western Reserve University. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and has published numerous papers in the fields of energy system optimization, applied optics, and integrated circuits.

Amy Simpkins

Design, Engineering & Project Management

Amy is an engineering and project management expert  focused on delivering maximum economic return for clients' energy investment dollar for micro- and minigrid clients in the commercial & industrial sector and in the developing world. Previously, Amy was an engineer and spacecraft systems architect with Lockheed Martin, where she worked on advanced R&D, design integration, and flight operations for critical spacecraft missions.  Her technical expertise includes system and software architecture, system-level performance modeling and design tradespace analysis. Amy has also provided independent strategic vision consulting to startups and small businesses. Amy holds an MS in Astronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California and an SB in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Steve Welsh

Engineering, Procurement & Construction

Steve is a veteran solar power expert with an extensive background in executive management, operations, improved efficiency and higher profitability through effective Strategic Planning, Business Process Improvement, Change Management and Aligned Execution. Previous positions include President of OPxcel Management, an executive performance management company for the Federal Government and private industry and GM of Honeywell’s Mid Atlantic Building Controls division. Steve Welsh earned a Masters of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University.

Brian Desmond

Installation & Project Management

A 12 year solar industry professional, Brian is a solar PV and energy storage project management specialist with deep engineering, procurement and construction experience. Brian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Finance from Mount St. Mary’s University (MD).

Paul Hanrahan


CEO of Globeleq, Paul has more than 30 years of experience in power industries across the world.  Prior to Globeleq, he founded and subsequently sold American Capital Energy & Infrastructure, a private equity group focused on global investments in energy infrastructure investments. From 2002-2011, Paul served as the CEO of The AES Corporation, a 30,000-person global power company with assets in 30 countries.  Paul is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.  Prior to beginning his business career, he served as a line officer on a fast-attack nuclear submarine in the US Navy.  Paul currently sits on the boards of two publicly traded companies:  Ingredion, Inc. (NYSE: INGR) and AquaVenture Holdings, Ltd. (NYSE: WAAS)

Peter Kelly-Detwiler


Co-Founder of Northbridge Energy Partners, Peter brings over 20 years-experience in the energy industry in a career that has focused on the development of retail competitive markets, as well as new trends, technologies, market developments, and sustainable solutions that create value in the energy space.  Peter is also a regular contributor to Peter previously served as Senior Vice President of Energy Technology Services at Constellation NewEnergy where he established the Demand Response group and oversaw its growth to 1,700 MW of dispatchable load. His earlier career incloced various aspects of retail power markets, and he served as both Director of Customer Service, East Coast (AES NewEnegy, and Senior Director of Operations, New England (Constellation NewEnergy). Peter received a BA from Williams College (Williamstown, Mass.) and a Masters of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The  Tufts University Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy (Somerville, Mass.). 

Sandy Frey


Sandy is a registered Financial Advisor committed to client success in all aspects of their financial lives. Sandy has extensive experience in estate and tax planning services and excels in identifying and implementing strategies that address a client’s long-term planning needs.  Sandy holds the Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM (CRPC®) designation, the Series 7, Series 24, Series 53, and Series 66 FINRA registrations, is a National Insurance Producer for Life, Health & Long Term Care Insurance and NMLS Registered Agent. She is also a qualified Portfolio Manager. In addition to more than 30 years of experience as a securities and investment professional and business manager, Sandy brings extensive involvement in community based non-profits including Tidewater Rotary Club, Mid Shore Pro Bono, Junior Achievement of Talbot County, and is Past President of the Chesapeake Women’s Network. She is also an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Choptank and Talbot Hospice Foundation.

Eric Niloff


Co-Founder and CEO of EverPresent, Inc., Eric heads a rapidly growing company that digitizes old photos and videos for families and organizations, and helps them share cherished memories across generations. Prior to co-founding EverPresent, Eric was a Senior Principal at The Parthenon Group, leading project teams across the firm’s Corporate, Education and Private Equity practices. Eric earned a BA in Political Science from Yale University (New Haven, Conn.) and an MBA from The Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School (Baltimore, Md.).
